Description Randy Hudson CLA 2002-02-15 10:57:12 EST
It would be nice to have a dropdown combobox rather than just a Text control
with the last release comment. I go down the release tree more or less in
order, but associated changes may be scattered throughout the items i am
releasing.
Comment 1 James Moody CLA 2002-02-15 15:39:48 EST
This might be more difficult in the new team codebase, as we use a multi-line
release comment text area now instead of the single line one.
Comment 2 Randy Hudson CLA 2002-02-15 22:51:39 EST
Doesn't this comment eventually get displayed in a native table (resource
history view).

If so, how will the table widget display multiple lines for a TableItem?
Comment 3 James Moody CLA 2002-02-24 19:35:47 EST
The table truncates the comment with "..." where the first CR occurs. But the
new CVS Resource History view also includes an optional multiline text widget
for multiline comments. It also includes a list widget in which all the tags for
the selected item are shown. I think it's much more usable than the old history
view.

We do retain the last comment and suggest it as the comment when you commit, but
there is no drop-down history beyond that in the current work due to multi-line
support. If you can think of a good way to do this, let me know.

How about splitting the multi-line portion of the release comment into a second
Text control. The first line or "title" of the release comment would be in an
editable drop-down Combo. The "details" of the history would be in a multiline
widget. The final release comment is just the concatenated text of the 2
widgets.

Maybe??
Comment 6 Genady Beryozkin CLA 2002-04-16 06:01:21 EDT
Ok, maybe it would be better to have a non-editable "title" combo box,
that would display the first lines of recent comments.
Selecting an entry from the title combo-box will set the contents in another
multi-line text area. Modifying the text in the multi-line text area will
reset the combo-box selection to some default entry (for example,
called "New...").

this would be a very useful addition, I am constantly retyping the same
comments when committing, and have been meaning to open an enhancement request
for some time, so whatever its worth, I'm adding my vote...

as for the implementation, a drop-down history list above the comment text area
would suffice. selecting a particular entry would replace the text in the
comment area, and undo would replace the whole lot as a compound change. the
dropdown would necessarily only show the first line of a particular entry, and
only a finite part of that, but this will usually be all you need to identify
which comment you want, and as it will be displayed in full after selecting, a
bit of trying will get the right one if there are a few similar novel length
ones :-)

The comment history is not preseved from one eclipse run to the next in build
eclipse-I20030129.

Odd, I was sure we had scheduled this.

Why has this been marked as a duplicate of 30195? This request asks for an
accessible history of commit comments (with some kind of list control that the
user can select a previous, ie. not just the last, commit comment). 30195 just
asks for the last commit comment to be persisted across Eclipse invocations.
Also, why is this old request being marked as a duplicate of a very recent one?

ok, drop-down has been implemented for M5, I'm happy...

That's our goal :)
