It would be nice to have anoption to make a non-java project a java project.
Like this exist already with PDE to make a project a plug-in project.
It is confusing for beginners.

Any chance of getting this in 3.3, or maybe at least making it a plan item for 3.4 (or whatever comes next)?

I think this is something that has to be decided by the platform. You don't want a 'Ad Java nature', 'Add PDE nature' 'Add web nature' on a project.
