Description Laurent Denanot CLA 2005-03-23 18:17:39 EST
Hi,

I am using Eclipse 3.1M5a + WTP 1.0M3 for J2EE development.

I previously used Lomboz v2.x and 3.x, and noticed a significant difference in
JSP syntax colouring/highlighting:

With the Lomboz plug-in, the whole body content of JSP elements (JSP
scriptlets, directives and so on)is displayed against a yellow highlight
background, on top of having foreground colouring for individual elements
(tags, attributes, etc..). This allows for very quick & easy identification of
JSP code inside the page, and I've always found it to be a huge productivity
and troubleshooting booster...

In comparison, using Eclipse with the Web Tools Platform plugins, you can
only assign a background highlight color to tags and attributes, but you can't
highlight body tag contents...

Now, I understand that most structured text files (HTML/XML//JSP etc...) share
common highlighting/templating options in Eclipse/WTP.

So, my question is.... Is there any chance that such a commodity can/will be
implemented within the Eclipse/WTP Syntax highlighting scheme ?

ADDITIONAL NOTE:

This request was first filed as #88879 under the JDT.TEXT component, and was
subsequently closed because found a duplicate of request #6712

However I believe that while being very close to #6712, my request should still
be "cross-posted" to JST.JSP as it specifically applies to JSP syntax colouring.

Ultimately though, feel free to close this if it is a duplicate of an already
posted request in JST.JSP, or if the feature can only be addressed by the JDT
functionality.

In any case though, please do consider this enhancement request as I feel it
will matter to many people, judjing from the number of duplicate or very
similar requests to this one or to #6712 posted for the JDT component.

Many Thanks,
Laurent

Hello,

I think exactly the same. The Lomboz highlighting was much clearer concerning
JSP scriptlets. I had lots of problems already with the WTP highlighting.

I think that it's very important this feature and very easy to do (I think).

BG color for "JSP Content" regions is now selectable via the
window > preferences > JSP Files > JSP Styles page.
The default is currently set to white, so you'll have to change it to see
any background highlighting.

I've checked a fix in HEAD.

Can't wait for the next milestone...

Hi Phil,

Sorry I'm (very !) late replying...

This is quite an improvement indeed, thank you.

However, even though I may sound a bit fussy, I'm still not 100% satisfied
(sorry !!).

I would have thought the whole JSP region would be highlighted. as it stands,
the white space and punctuation (e.g. equals signs between attributes) within
the JSP region still doesn't get highlighted. You might want to have a look at
what the Lomboz plugin does to see what I mean...

I suppose this is difficult to achieve though, because it would take a notion
of a separate highlight on top of the ones for tag and attributes names and JSP
markers.

I'm fully aware this is a bit of asking of course !!

Regards,
Laurent

This bug was moved to 'closed' state, since it is so old and it is assumed really fixed and no longer useful or need further attention. Feel free to re-open, or open a new bug, if this semi-automatic processing was done in error.
