the view dialog should add a text entry field that supports type ahead to allow
users to filter down the number of views.

I think this is done. I have a View Filter in 3.2 :-)

yes, the filter was provided in the ShowView dialog in 3.2.
Marking this as a dup for 74795 (the closest bug I could find for adding this behavior in 3.2).
