Description Wassim Melhem CLA 2004-09-13 18:10:30 EDT
From bug 53468,

(We need)
one new wizard which is "New Product" (note that this is not RCP or IDE
specific). It would allow people to identify the plugin they want to use to
contain the
product definition (or go into the new plugin wizard if necessary). They can
also define the branding as needed and have the build.properties etc updated.
And, perhaps optionally have a config.ini generated.

NOte also that I use the term "wizard" here loosely. it could be cheat sheets,
editors, combinations of the above. The point being that users will want to go
back and change their product. Getting them to the point of having a product
to change is half the battle (a worthy half at that) but the rest is allowing
them to then manage that which they hath created.

The new Product Configuration wizard will be available in today's I-build.
It replaces the 'Extension Point schema' wizard as PDE's official UI
capabilities hook.

This wizard will create a *.product file. this file will be the basis for the
RCP product story (bug 49592).

The file must have a .product extension. Other than that, there are no
retrictions. It can reside in any project or folder.
No restriction on the filename (e.g. plugin.xml). this way, you can store as
many *.product files as you want in the same folder.

The wizard gives you three options to initialize the file:
 - initialize with data from an existing product extension
 - initialize with data from an existing launch config
 - a file with minimal content.
