Description vin CLA 2002-01-02 11:27:14 EST
If within a method I want to view all usages of a local variable (or paramters)
or within a class all usages of a data member, I would like to be able to
highlight the variable (by double clicking it) and press <shift><ctl><f7> (or
any other key combination) to see occurances highlighted right within the
editor. This makes understanding code very easy.

Additionally in the gutter, on the side, indications (hyperlinks) are
provided for quick navigation to those occurances that are above or below
the page currently being viewed.

This is better than a search in many cases.

Ok, I should have said "in addition to the search, highlight occurances for
easy code understanding".

I would like to add the following:

Once the searched occurances are highlighted (by the editor), the highlighted
occurances should stay highlighted until esc is pressed by the user.

This highlight should be colored as well with a color of users choice specified
in Preferences.

Please note that this highlighting is different from something that a user
highlights using the mouse or otherwise. It is done by the editor.

Also this kind of search is limited to the current file open in the editor.

support along these lines is in our list but unfortunatly not for 2.0

Post 2.0 review: this feature request belongs to the Java editor. moving to JDT
UI. keeping current state to let component owner decide.
