quite often i need to open a group of files which i can have appear in the Open Resource/Type dialog simultaneously. It would be helpful to be able to 'ctrl+click' individual results so that i can open more then one resource at a time. this would save me opening the dialog a number of times and performing the same search.
The problem here is that the dialog doesn't represent a tree. The informaiton is presented in linked list. So if you want to open files which exists in two different packages there in no easy way to do this with the current user interface. Time permitted.
i'm not sure you've understood me. by using the wildcard characters i can filter the list down to a small number of resources i would like to open. there is no need for a ui tree or any change in the display whatsoever, the current layout is fine. all i am suggesting is the ability to hold down the control key and select multiple entries in the list, then when 'ok' is clicked, open each of the selected entries. obviously each entry in your linked list represents an individual resource.. the only code change i can see is changing is the ability to select more then one list element and then the ability to send multiple entries to the open procedure when 'ok' is clicked. can you explain why you think the ui needs to change (other then the ctrl click). i understand this is probably not a high priority issue but i can't see how it's alot of work.
Created attachment 13840 [details] reproduction i'd like to open all 3 of these files. come on! it cant be that hard to allow ctrl click can it?
As said this only works if all files are in the same folder/package. With the current user interface it will not work if the files are in different folders or in different packages. If a bug is mark as Resolved Later it means that we accept it but aren't committed on fixing it. So reopening such a bug isn't necessary. Moving to Platform/UI. Opened bug 71859 to cover the Open Type case.
Moving...
This is something I find myself wanting to use on an everyday basis. Is seems as a small fix that would increase usability a lot. Really hope that this enhancement will have its priority up'ed asap
Works for me in HEAD for Open Resource. I suggest to close this bug for 3.3M6. Bug 71859 is for the pending support in the Java dialogs.
Works in R3.3.
