- Open CVS Repositories
- select a project, use "Check Out As..."
- select "Check out as a project in the workspace"
- type something, which doesn't match CVS project name, e.g. "X"
- click "Next"

The page shows checkbox "Use default workspace location" and greyed out 
location, which shows <workspace>/CVS project name (not <workspace>\X)

- uncheck and recheck "Use default workspace location" to see <workspace>\X
