Select the context menu item 'Refactor > Rename' (or press Alt-Shift-R) over a 
local variable or method name. Rename the item, confirm.

*** The rename dialog pops up again and again. ***

The only way I found to get rid of the dialogs it is holding down the Escape key 
for about 10 seconds. Then the x-th dialog is closed and no other pops up again.
