Please move and/or split this bug as appropriate.

Need comprehensive doc on product id/branding elements.  There are 20 some 
pieces of data scattered across 7 files.    This is ridiculous!    For a given 
item ( see below ) how does one know what uses that item?

Product branding/id elements found so far -

o   Feature.xml
  + label : At least for my setup, that is where feauture element names some 
            plugin, this only seems to be used by the update framework. ( Help
            | Manage Cfg, Help | Search for updates ).  The value here
            does not get used for Help | About | Features for example.

  + provider-name : same as label above
  + plugin : this seems to do what doc says it does.
  + image : seems nothing uses this

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and remove the stalebug whiteboard tag. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
