200405250800, default (new) look When a view title is broader than its view, the title is cut at right. I would expect that the whole title is shown in a hover when I move the mouse over it. Good examples to see the missing hovers are Console and Search views (search for a method with many parameters).
Created attachment 49074 [details] Full Title is not shown via Shell, or hover help The ... at the end of the title bar indicates there is truncated text, however I would expect the hover help to accomidate this hidden text such as Windows XP does. In our hospital setting, it is critical that all the information in the title is available to the users.
Does IWorkbenchPart.getTitleToolTip() not help? Did you try Eclipse 3.2?
Tyler: AFAICS your screenshot shows a tooltip on a Shell, not on a ViewPart. This bug was about long view titles (which are not shown in the title any more, but in an extra "content description" row). However, the issue of this bug is now dealt with in bug 65138 and bug 77506. If your problem is really with a Shell, the you should open a new bug for Platform/SWT and include a small snippet that shows how you set the shell title (and tooltip). Don't forget to post your OS version. Besides: From a usability point of view, I would not recommend showing important information in a tooltip only. You should reserve some fixed space inside the window to make sure the users sees all important information. Boris: I would close this as a dup of bug 65138.
Thanks Markus. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 65138 ***
