Using the new tabs, perspective bar is not docked under the tool bar and not showing text on the perspective bar. Linux GTK I20040517-1219. When freshly loading up, the icons for currently loaded perspectives are listed in the wrong order. (ie/ when I shut eclipse (I20040514) down, they were "Java Browsing", "Debug", "CVS Repositoy Exporing", and when I started I200405017, they are listed as "CVS Respository Exploring", "Debug", "Java Browsing"). Further, close all perspectives, and then re-adding them, also lists them in the wrong order (ie/ new perspectives are added to the top of the list, instead of the bottom).
Same for me with this build on WinXP.
Also it looks like new editor tabs are opened on the left as well. (build i0518-0816)
Opening on left is intentional. Re-ordering the tabs on restart is a bug already logged I will mark this as a dup.

Unfortunately, opening on the left is extremely counter-intuitive to people who read left-to-right. If I open perspective A and then perspective B, I expect A to be listed after B. Which, since I read left-to-right, it means that B will be to the right of A, and (when listed vertically) under B. Reopening for reconsideration.
I can live with new perspectives opening on the left if you allow me to move them around. (bug 54319) :-)
A typo in my previous comment. "I expect A to be listed after B" should read "I expect B to be listed after A".
Actually, in reference to comment 6, I think that re-ordering is a separate issue -- it doesn't impact the fact that opening to the left is counter-intuitive. (Sorry ;-) )
this bug subject indicates wrong order on restart. the second comment regarding opening new perspectives is covered in bug 62845
It's been nearly a year, and it's still borked in 3.0 M5a, and it's annoying as hell.
As far as I can see the only outstanding issue here is the fact that perspectives open left to right. For 3.1 this will not be re-visited. There are some limitations in SWT toolbars that make it not possible for us (when adding on the right) to discern whether there is enough space to place the next item.
FYI, perspective order changes made by drag and drop and problems with restarting eclipse and losing order will be fixed as aprt of bug 84499
