1) Create a new location by entering .location as the filename 2) Enter a name of "foo" in the name field 3) Close the location 4) Reopen the location 5) Edit the name field by deleting all characters, save and close 6) Create a new datapool with filename foo.datapool and name "temp" 7) Save and close datapool 8) Open foo.datapool 9) Edit the datapool name field by deleting all characters "temp", save and close. The ability to have an empty-named artifact is illogical and confusing to the user.
This problem is not limited to datapools or locations. All assets in Hyades have this problem (suites, etc.) This should be fixed globally in the next release. We need warning strings that we cannot add currently due to PII freeze.
There are a couple issues related to this defect: 1) validation of the file name in new wizard doesn't give an error when the name starts with '.'. -- this can be fixed easily. 2) no validation of the editing of display name in resource editors. 3) in Test Navigator, resource names shown there are not consistant - it shows the display name for some resource like test suite, and the file name for others like datapool, location, etc.
submitted new defect Bug#: 71745 for inconsistancy with display names in Test Navigator.
This fix prevents the user from saving a file name for a location/artifact that begins with a period.
correcting bugzilla target milestone -- setting back to 3.1 i2
This defect needs to be reopen, or a new one needs to be submitted, for: Assets are perimiited to be saved with empty names. This problem was mentioned in this defect but now there is no way to track it. Do you want to disallow empty names? Or is it a feature?
(In reply to comment #7) Alex, please open a new defect against TPTP (this defect was opened against Hyades).
