M8 Starting with a default Debug perspective move the Outline view down and to the right of the Console view. Minimize the Console. You don't gain any space because the minimize only removes the content part of the view and the title/tab bar remains at the top edge. Only when you also minimize the right hand Outline view do both title bars move to the bottom edge of the perspective. Simon suggested that minimizing one view minimize all views in that row. This would work but it would be unexpected behavior if an action in one view affects other views. Also, if you have a layout with two views stacked vertically (e.g., in one column) you would not want one minimize to minimize all views in the column. Minimizing one view actually yields the space to the other view in the same column so this is useful and expected behavior.
Whoops, I don't think Simon wants to fix this. Was meant to be on CC.

Minimize collapses the whole folder of views, not just the specific view clicked on. Not sure what you're suggesting for the column case. Should it rearrange the perspective so that the Outline and Signals views are in separate folders and then collapse only the folder containing Outline? This would actually end up giving less space to Signals. The simple solution would be to disable minimize for both these cases. A fancier solution would be to collapse horizontally as well as vertically, perhaps even going to vertically oriented labels. But that's not likely to happen for 3.0. Marking as a dup as the PR for the simple case. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 57469 ***
Yes, I realize the entire stack gets minimized. The key is the empty gray area that results. The Outline and Signals view is only an issue as described in bug 57469. Vertical tabs would be a solution although a somewhat ugly one (do the tabs only become vertical on minimize and move back on maximize?). The column case I mentioned is the shared libraries/registers view stacks and it works fine. I guess another way to fix this bug is to apply whatever you come up with for bug 57469. E.g., resize the outline view wider and somehow move away the tabs of the minimized view stack.
