It would be nice if the Text Compare (View? Editor?) would not only show the revision numbers, but also author, date and comment of the compared revisions. I frequently find myself wanting to know who did that new revision in the CVS and what for, but then being to lazy to look it up in the Resource History.
Moving to Team
We don't have the APIs to show more details in the compare viewer, also the viewer doesn't have much screen space. But the good news is that there are alternatives: 1. open history view and click the link to editor button. When you open a compare editor the history will be fetched in the background and you can see all the gritty details. 2. (even better) switch to the Commit Set layout in the synchronize view (e.g. view drop down Layout > Commit Set. This will allow you to see all incoming changes grouped by commit comment, user, and date.
Thanks for the hints, the "Link with Editor" button is very useful. Hm. If you have the revision number of the remote file at hand to display on the right side of the compare viewer, you really can't easily also get the author of that revision?
We may be able to get the author in the same round trip as the revision but it would involve changing our low-level sync to use log instead of status and it is to late in 3.0 to consider such a change.
OK I understand. So at least with 3.0, I will need another click to see the author... I hope you don't mind me setting this to target milestone 3.1 :-)
I have added a Team>CVS>Compare preference page with the option to show the author in the compare editor. The option is off by default since there is an overhead associated with fetching the author. Also, the date and commit comment are not shown becuase of the lack of space where the information is displayed. Fix released to HEAD.
