Description Michael Y Kwong CLA 2004-04-02 21:41:48 EST
Scenario:
1. Unzipped eclipse M8 into c:\eclipse3.0 directory
2. Go to workbench.
3. Import ... all the source plugins into the brand new workspace.
4. Immediately switch over to the PDE perspective.
5. Click on the "Open Class" button in the toolbar (the one that brings up the
dialog with all the classes in the workspace to choose from)
6. Dialog pops up indicating indexing files. Meanwhile, background build is
   proceeding.
7. Half an hour later, the workbench crashes with a popup pointing to the .log
   file
8. From there on, could not launch eclipse. Every time it said look at .log.
The .log indicates that some plugins were mistakenly activated, that a crash
   probably caused this situation.

.log file from the first workspace crash (workspace-src)

This happened after initiating an "Open Type" operation while the background
build
is taking place. The workspace contains all the source plug-ins for Eclipse
imported into the workspace. Did not modify the default memory settings (heap

size, etc). The workspace crashes with a message pointing the user to the
.log.

.log file for subsequent attempts to bring up Eclipse

After the workspace crashed due to the Out Of Memory error, the workbench will
not
come up. The user is brought directly to a message pointing to the .log file.
No dialog to allow the user to select the workspace. Seems to default to
workspace, even though prior to this, workspace-src was the workspace I was
working in.
