Many searches require using Advanced Search: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/query.cgi?format=advanced This type of search has the unfortunate result of showing all matching tickets regardless of their status, by default, which means that a huge proportion of results are irrelevant for people searching issues affecting them, as they do not affect the system they use. One solution would be track in which version issues are solved. This would allow searches to filter based on the version used, with the premise that if an issue was solved in version x, that issue has no relevance for users experiencing an issue with either version x or ulterior versions. Often, it is difficult to establish exactly what solved an issue, so it is easier or faster to rely on testing to conclude that a solution was shipped between versions x and x+y. An issue in such a case can be ignored for people making a search about version x+y of the product or an ulterior version. In some cases, like Bugzilla, there is no need for version tracking; issues can be ignored as soon as the solution is deployed.
We won't be investing any resources into improving Bugzilla, as we encourage projects to use GitHub and Eclipse GitLab (https://gitlab.eclipse.org). Please see: Shutdown this bugzilla instance. https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=577151
I'm afraid that this actually persists.
