The visual design of the progress item in the status line is sub-optimal on Mac.
- the yellow color is hardly recoginzable, but it still looks different than the striped background color
   (see first screenshot; please note due to different Gamma value on Mac and Window there might
   be no visual diffrence at all; the second screenshot uses a different Gamma to Mac the difference
   more visible).
- there is no border between the progress item and the status line
- the font is too big. Many messages are crippled in funny ways.

The yellow colour has been removed and a seperator added between progress and 
the status line. We take the font from the OS - is it different from the 
status line font on the Mac?

If we introduce a customizable system font on Mac OS X (as suggested in bug #56558) this problem 
would go away.
