Description Michael Rennie CLA 2017-04-13 11:40:11 EDT
Follow up work from bug 496941 - after a month (or two?) we need to remove the old Orion source repositories now that we have successfully moved all development to GitHub.

The repositories to remove are:

http://git.eclipse.org/c/orion/org.eclipse.orion.client.git
http://git.eclipse.org/c/orion/org.eclipse.orion.design.git
http://git.eclipse.org/c/orion/org.eclipse.orion.marketplace.git
http://git.eclipse.org/c/orion/org.eclipse.orion.server.git
http://git.eclipse.org/c/www.eclipse.org/orion.git/

If nobody has any objections, the plan is to move forward with this on Monday, June 12th.

Can we just clarify that these repos are to be removed completely i.e. deleted?

Just wondering, what happens to people that still reference them? Will they get forwarded? Are they currently read-only so that commits are not allowed?

They are currently read-only, so commits are not allowed and there is no forwarding in place. If we had a preference, it would be to remove them from the filesystem completely, but at the same time, the option is there to archive them into the Orion archives area if need be.

Just waiting on confirmation on how best to proceed with this?

We can push back the timeframe if more time is required to make a decision.

Let's get rid of them after Orion 15 ships, June 28. Sound good?

Sounds good!

Ok I've removed:

org.eclipse.orion.server.git
org.eclipse.orion.client.git
org.eclipse.orion.design.git
org.eclipse.orion.marketplace.git

So that leaves:

/gitroot/orion/orion-parent.git
/gitroot/www.eclipse.org/orion.git

Do you also want orion-parent.git removed?

Michael? Wouldn't we want everything gone?

Yes, I think so.

+1 ... do it

Ok I've removed /gitroot/orion/orion-parent.git . Are you really sure you want to delete the orion website? Should it be re-directed?

The website code was migrated to https://github.com/eclipse/orion. Can we host the website from there? or do we need to keep it in the existing repo? All the Orion website does is redirect to orionhub.org - so we could just remove the website if the foundation can provide a redirect.

Ok, I've added a redirect and have archived the www.eclipse.org/orion.git repo.
