My Ant build produces class files and other processed resources into a build 
directory under the project.  I'd like to be able to filter out any classes and 
resources found in this directory.

filter from a view? which view?

In 'Open Type' you can do that using the 'Type filters' (in M6, see Type Filter
preference page).
For 'Open resource' there is nothing like that. File a feature request against
platform.ui.
