The current description for the date variable adjustments is not very telling.

Current date. Use ${id\:date[(format[, locale])]} to format the date.
----

${id:date[(format[, locale])]} is obvious not valid and I think it is hard for the user to figure out the syntax. 

I suggest we had 1-2 examples for the usage.
