Now that the PMC decided that Eclipse Neon will require Java 8 I think it would be helpful if JDT Core updates to Java 8. 

This way the JDT core developer can use their own Java 8 tooling on their code basis and modernize the code basis.

In general this makes sense but we might have to wait for this because we also have to provide Java 9 feature patches for 4.5.x which  runs on JRE 7.
