It is impossible to import only a part of the preferences
in the workbench. This is really needed for teams of
developpers to share project settings.

To reproduce:
Import a file containing only the following 3 lines :

#Sat Oct 04 17:28:26 PDT 2003
org.eclipse.jdt.ui=3.0.0
org.eclipse.jdt.ui/org.eclipse.jdt.ui.editor.tab.width=12

All your preferences will be reset to defaults, except the tab width...
