Description Jan Koehnlein CLA 2014-06-06 04:04:22 EDT
The default font is 'Monaco', which lacks an explicit bold version, so SWT's 'artificial bold' kicks in. On my new MacBook with Retina, this no longer shows as bold.

Steps to reproduce:
- Create a new Java class: Java keywords should by default in bold but they are not showing as such.
- Switching bold on and of in Preferences > Java > Editor > Syntax Coloring has no effect.

At the same time 'italics' works fine even though there is no italics version of Monaco either.

Still seen with Neon (4.6 RC2), for another boldface issue see also
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=494547

Workaround:
Preferences > Appearance > Fonts, under Basic > Text Font click Edit and choose Menlo.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
