I created a new perspective and saved it (using Window>Save Perspective As...). Shortly after, Eclipse crashed. On startup, the perspective I saved was not available. I think that the perspective should be persisted to disk when the user performs an explicit save.

Is this still a problem in 3.3? PW
I don't know. Given that reproducing the failure requires a workbench crash, I do not plan on trying to reproduce it.
This problem is related to some of what we talked about. Saving a perspective just creates a preference. It'll get written out when the preferences get written out ... I guess which is why the crash killed them (and any other unsaved preferences). Should we force a preference write after saving a perspective? PW
Yes, I think that it would be appropriate to flush the preferences to disk when the user has explicitly saved a perspective.
investigate preference save request. PW
This works in Eclipse Mars.
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. As such, we're closing this bug. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and reopen this bug. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. -- The automated Eclipse Genie.
