The critical error in quesiont is
(SWT:24935): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_shape_combine_region: assertion 'GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed

and the window pointer is null.

On GTK3 it looks like gtk_widget_get_window can not retrieve the window if the widget is not realized.
