Currently a popup of Vex allows me to set the type of the document. It also allows me to set the preferred type for this kind of document.

Would be nice to see and set this selection in the Vex preference settings.

I think you are describing the 'Always use this document type...' checkbox?

Just to make sure we're talking abou the same thing: This checkbox does not set a preferred type, but inserts a 'DOCTYPE' declaration to the active document. This currently does not work for documents that use a namespace or schema instead of a DTD.

When we would make this a preference, Vex would use this preference for all documents without a Doctype or schema definition.

A global preference would be helpful to me and IMHO to other. Typically people work on one type if document.

After testing a bit more Vex, I think such a setting would be very helpful, especially with XIncludes you have lots of documents. It might also indirectly ease the pain with the popups from Bug 418089.

I need to reduce my open bug and I do not plan to use Vex in the near future hence I close my bug as WONTFIX. Please open a new bug in case you plan to work on this feature.
