Description Jonas Helming CLA 2013-07-01 05:52:16 EDT
The original Eclipse Workspace provider has been changed to be a File Provider. Although it is possible to select files from the Eclipse Workspace, it is not really a "Workspace Provider" anymore. During the change, the contribution to the repository browser has been removed, as it does not really fit in the concept of the "File Provider". We need to decide:

- What are the exact requirements of the Workspace provider
- If workspace provider and file provider will be the same in the future
- If not, how to migrate existing instances

There will be a telco tomorrow 3.30 pm to discuss this, please indicate if you want to join

Discussed today with Eike with the following result:

There should be two provider: Eclipse Workspace provider and File Provider.
Reason: The Workspace Provider uses Eclipse Workspace specific concepts such as IFolder and different notification mechanisms

The following bug report describes the necessary actions:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=412118

Changes should be done before 1.1
The workspace provider will need to be tested before it gets part of the release.

Additionally, we agreed that the file provider and Eclipse Workspace Provider should probably share a common bundle in the future.
Additionally both provider can support Folders and mutliple files.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
