Description Michael Mühlberg CLA 2013-06-27 04:14:54 EDT
Hello,

the icon of an inactive view disappears, probably because of the fact that the icon file was renamed.

The system shows a default icon (small red square), see attachment.

When one clicks on the view, the icon gets loaded correectly. But next time one starts Eclipse the icon is again not fould.

Deleting the workbench.xmi file solves the problem but this is not an option for our end users.

I attached the probably erroneous workbench.xmi, too.

Ciao, Michael

Why is the icon not found after restarting your eclipse? Was one of your bundles not included in the next restart? In the XMI you attached, all of the view default icons seem reasonable:

platform:/plugin/com.sap.ndb.studio.dwb.team.ui/icons/dev_workbench_perspective.gif
platform:/plugin/com.sap.ndb.studio.navigator/icons/obj16/navigator.gif

We have similar issue with the SonarQube plugin on Eclipse 4.3. In successive versions of the plugin we have changed view title/icon. After people have updated the plugin the view is still displayed with old name and old icon (not found => red icon).

  - Restarting Eclipse with -clean doesn't help.
  - View title is correct in Windows -> Show View menu.
  - Closing/reopening view doesn't help.
  - Reseting perspective doesn't help.

The offending part in workbench.xmi is:
<sharedElements xsi:type="basic:Part" xmi:id="_aI4jZCv-EeORbMmgbCj7yA" elementId="org.sonar.ide.eclipse.ui.views.issues.IssuesView" contributionURI="bundleclass://org.eclipse.ui.workbench/org.eclipse.ui.internal.e4.compatibility.CompatibilityView" label="Sonar Issues" iconURI="platform:/plugin/org.sonar.ide.eclipse.ui/icons/sonar.png" tooltip="0 items" closeable="true">

label is still old label and icon is still old icon.

Removing workbench.xmi and restarting Eclipse fix the problem.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. As such, we're closing this bug.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and reopen this bug. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
