Currently it seems there's no way for changing a ToolItem foreground (so, if I set a dark background to a ToolItem and use setText(), any text used becomes unreadable).

I have no issue setting both foreground and background on ToolItem on GTK 3.24 thus resolving. Please reopen if your problem is with another port.
