The perf command-line tool has a stat sub-command that shows a general list of important statistics for an application.  The ability to get this generic list of events should be permitted by the Eclipse plug-in.  The stat sub-command also allows the user to run the tool multiple times to get averaged counts).

Both of these options should be provided by the plug-in.
