In bug 359480 Mark suggested a tooltip on outliner items.

Not sure if he had specific ideas about this, but we could show the first few lines of code, for example.

In today's Orion call, we talked about having an "outliner" which is actually a navigator.  Instead of parsing the code, it would parse the path and show the containment hierarchy for the file.  If we did this kind of thing, Simon was saying that it would be cool to pop up the outline of a file in its hover, so you could peruse the files for API name while typing in another file.  

But the basic idea is that the outline provider might want to provide some more detailed information about whatever is going in the outline.
