This patch omits use of deprecated method gdk_utf8_to_compound_text() and uses gdk_x11_display_utf8_to_compound_text ()  for newer GTK+, also it makes gtk_utf8_to_compound_text () dynamic, to remove warnings when compiling against GTK 2.4:
