Description Vangel Ajanovski CLA 2012-07-08 19:42:01 EDT
Eclipse crashes completely without an error, without even an exception in consoleLog when minimizing, maximizing any of the views.

Product: Eclipse 1.5.0.20120131-1544 (org.eclipse.epp.package.java.product)
Installed Features:

So if you open eclipse in a new workspace, close the welcome screen, and then minimize the Outline view it crashes?

What java version from what provider are you running?

You should look for hs_err_<pid>.log files. If Oracle java crashes, it usually generates those.

So, now, after this suggestion, I do this step by step:
1. I created an empty folder for the workspace.
2. I did a File -> Switch workspace. I chose the new folder and after that it crashed.
3. Start Eclipse again and I see the Welcome screen, as if everything is OK with the workspace. On clicking Close it crashes again.
4. Start Eclipse again, Welcome is now closed, regular views are present (package explorer, task list, outline and problems).
5. If I click minimize, maximize or even close on any of them, it crashes.
6. If I import some old project I have, the project works as expected. Installation of plugins is OK, maven building is OK, applet starting is OK, all is fine except the management of the different views.

The same happens in an old workspaces.

I can repeat this whenever I want, and as many times as I want, it is completely predictable. Always crashes.

I am not able to find such log files.
Running eclipse -consoleLog shows only this:

Gtk:ERROR:/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.24.10/gtk/gtkwidget.c:8836:gtk_widget_real_map: assertion failed: (gtk_widget_get_realized (widget))

From the discussions I can say that it does seem similar (or the same).
I can also add, that when testing some early E4 release last year I did not have this problem.

I can confirm this bug too. This is the output upon crash when running from terminal:

Gtk:ERROR:gtkwidget.c:8828:gtk_widget_real_map: assertion failed: (gtk_widget_get_realized (widget))

To recreate, just open eclipse and minimize or close any window, for example Outline, or changing perspective. Everything else seems to be working ok.

Running on Java 1.6.0_26-b03
Eclipse 4.2.0
Arch Linux 3.4.9

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got
resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some
reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it.
The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you
still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is
(for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the stalebug whiteboard tag.
