During today's UX call there was some discussion about how to show the commands menu on the Navigator page. Some options we discussed were: a) Label "More" (current approach) b) A "gear" icon c) Label "Actions"
I tried a quick experiment with a "gear" icon with McQ, but our observation was that a gear (or other icon) doesn't play too nicely if it's not in a fixed location. Fixing it left doesn't work too well if it's going to appear and disappear. Fixing it right is a bit odd because we currently use the toolbar right side for pagination, view controls. So we need to play with the location for it first, to determine icon vs. text. Then figure out what that icon or text might be.
Am I the only one who associates a gear icon with settings, not actions/commands? I think the new Gmail interface has ruined me...

I think the new Gmail interface has ruined me... it's an apple thing. they use it as a selection menu. If we end up with a graphic, I think it doesn't matter what it is, as long as its placement is consistent and people learn it.
during a meeting today, we talked about: "Actions" and also that it should always appear, even if there is no selection. If clicked it instructs the user to make a selection and see what actions are available. We aren't ruling out a gear picture, just haven't come up with a nice one

Leaving this open and moving to RC1 to consider an icon.
cc'ing Anton. If we want an icon, we should do it in RC1, otherwise we should close this bug.

I think we don't have time to conceive of a metaphor for an actions menu icon in this release. It would be cool. we can reconsider down the road.
