There are several UI issues with those < >:

- I don't see whether I can(not) shift left or right i.e. where more editors are
  hidden.

- Seeing the ">>" to the left of the ">" is very confusing. Does ">>" shift
  more/faster than ">"? ;-)

Like in Firefox, the arrows should appear unless there are more tabs than fitting the tab area.

An IMHO visual glitch the always showing of the "<" solved is that the first tab has an ident. So when hiding/showing the "<" we should try out if we can add a small ident to the left?

No. I would expect no waste of space like in Firefox i.e. no indent at all if there's no '<'.
