Orbit repo already offers categories grouping bundles by scope (Logging, JSON). For simplicity it should also offer a category which includes all test tools, i.e. JUnit, Hamcrest, Mockito etc.
Interesting idea. I wouldn't mind taking a look at this (eventually) both to a) see if feasible (technically and conceptually) and b) better understand how Gunnar original implemented this. :) I think when we first discussed it we thought we could ever come up with a good set of meaningful categories, but if you think there are some clear cut ones, not sure we need to rule them all out. (But be completely explicit, if possible).
My vote would be to not try to come up with a full list but add categories as we see those were a good fit.
I actually also don't see any point in trying to provide a complete set of categories. This issue is just about test tools bundles that make up a meaningful group of installable units, which you would probably like to use together and hence it makes sense to put them in a separate category.
Are there any updates on this issues? It would be really nice to have a separate category for test related libs for several reasons. Bundles selection is not restored in the site content dialog (apparently due to bundles instead of features content) and each time we have to scroll through and re-select required bundles. Also loading the list of "All Orbit Bundles" category is quite slow in general. So having a much smaller category for everything related to tests would help much. Would it possible to add such a category to the Orbit repo?
No update yet. Remind me again if you see nothing by M6.
Added "Testing" category. Included "JUnit, Hamcrest, Mockito". Will promote I build later today with the new category in its repository. (3/3/2013).
