when you open the settings page, there is no category selected by default.  We should choose a default, because otherwise it looks like the page load failed.

Have a fix for this. Auto-selecting the first item in the category list for now.

sorry, I could have done that.  I was thinking Anton had one more tweak he wanted to do later but that was a different bug.
