Under certain circumstances, the Eclipse workbench seems to handle window sizes and maximized/unmaximized state incorrectly.

The issue is not clearly reproducible; as far as I can tell, it might be related to the workbench window width, possibly in combination with available screen space.

This is what has happened (and still does):

Using a fresh (i.e. new, empty) workspace, I accustomed Eclipse to my usual needs (including a comfortable window size, which is about 1600x1100px, _not_ maximized). When re-starting Eclipse, the workbench comes up maximized and refuses to restore the size it had upon closing.

However, this issue seems to depend on the actual window width. When resized below a certain 'border' width, e.g. 1350px, Eclipse shows expected behaviour and retains its size over a restart.

My screen setup is 1920x1200px, Linux-GTK / Unity; most likely the issue does not depend on whether a source file is open in an editor.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Here is some additional information:

Eclipse ignores the settings in workbench.xml; i.e., with the following size entry, it would still open maximized although not configured to do so:

<window height="1120" width="1560" x="300" y="24">

The 'border' width mentioned above seems to be around 1550px - at least on my system, in case this is system dependent. With width="1550", the workbench size is restored correctly after a restart.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the "stalebug" whiteboard tag.
