When an attachment is marked obsolete, there is an incoming notification with no details. When opening the task, the changed attachment is highlighted in blue. However, if hide obsolete attachments is checked, the obsolete attachment is not shown, leaving you to wonder why there was an incoming on the task.

I'm not sure how the behaviour could be improved. Perhaps the changed attachment should show through the filter. Or, perhaps it isn't necessary to have an incoming notification for this kind of change.
