Build Identifier: Version: 3.7.1 Build id: M20110909-1335 i'm running oracle jdk 1.7 64 bit on fedora f16 64bit box with 16gb of ram it's first time i use eclipse (i was using netbeans) so i don't know if it's normal for eclipse to be such bogus, anyway this is the last of tons of issues i've found and always forced me to fix with a brand new installation of eclipse and needed plugins, now i'm running eclipse with c/c++ DT Egit Javascript DT PDT all plugins are up2date i have a workspace hibrid with some c++ / php and java projects since today i started getting the IDE disappear (but process continue running) i then tryed almost everything , both to fix or to find the correct cause of the issue currently i removed all external project from the workspace leaving only my 7 java projects, edited eclipse.ini to get more ram to eclipse : --launcher.XXMaxPermSize 256m --launcher.defaultAction openFile -startup plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.2.0.v20110502.jar -vmargs -Xms400m -Xmx3384m -XX:MaxPermSize512m but the problem still occurr (actually i can run eclipse for about 2 minutes before it freezes using 100% of cpu and both jconsole and visualVM cannot even ping the process (jconsole give error and visualVM show the program as freezed) the problem occurred very randomly, trying to compile, editing a file, even deleting files (i have to say that all these java projects run git versionig tool integrated in eclipse with egit ) using visualVM i has been able to run a threaddump, because all other tools in this program seems freezed i thought it show only a old version of the dump ( an useless version of the program before it freezes) but running after some minutes it showed me a different content in the dump.. so i think that this tool is working! i'm not used to debug/program the source of eclipse so you can understand better the attached debug logs... anyway i have to say that there are lot of similar issue on google , most of people usually fix reinstalling eclipse , but after some re-installation i think that people just get bored, and without anymore complaining on internet , they switch silently to other editors , i already wasted many hours reinstalling/reconfiguring eclipse and i cannot do that so often, probably next time i'll switch too and that's very sad because eclipse was a great idea. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. happens every time on my installation but i has not been able to reproduce yet, maybe on a new installation this doesn't happens (i'll tar.gz current folder with the error if you need ask me) 2. 3.
Created attachment 209067 [details] thread_dump of eclipse by visualVM -pid 23095 at 11:30:40 AM -program freezed
Created attachment 209068 [details] thread_dump of eclipse by visualVM -pid 23095 at 11:56:07 AM -program freezed (same program after 20 min)
i want also to add that not always the IDE disappear, sometimes it just remain there, completely freezed (even mouse icon remain freezed when in the program) and close button didn't work (only show after a while that the program is freezed) also kill -15 did nothing i have to force kill (-9) to close the process , manually remove the .lock file from the workspace and restart eclipse..
Created attachment 209069 [details] another thread dump of crashe deleting files now i have found a way to 100% reproduce the freeze, i just need to open eclipse, open a project i have delete /bin/class folder (to delete compiled files and force to recompile all) do a small (1 character) modification to 1 file and compile, than if i go to delete again the folder /bin/class , eclipse freeze using 100% of cpu and showing me the dialog with progress bar "creating workspace modification" (freezed ), attached there is the thread dump of that case
Created attachment 209070 [details] threaddump of crash on new workspace i've tryed creating new workspace importing only 1 java project, the eclipse again crashed/freezed with 100% cpu usage, this time the IDE disappeared i've attached here the threaddump from visualVM so even blank workspace didn't fixed the issue (i'm going to re-install eclipse now :( )
i've got the exactly same issue with juno M4 :(
(In reply to comment #6) > i've got the exactly same issue with juno M4 :( With the plug-ins you described in comment 0? Do your coworkers have this problem?
my coworkers did not program in java, his hardware is very similar (same graphics card (ATI with unofficial driver (because are bogus) ), cpu intel i5, fedora 16) he have same plugins but do program only in php / javascript, but he didn't got this problem, anyway i'll do a bit more testing early next week i'll try to switch to xfce from gnome 3 (which seems to not be so stable (i'm also in dual monitor)) and let you know if the problem continue, to answer your question yes, juno m4 have same plugins, now i'm trying to test on another pc the same project, if give errors (maybe some parser get problems parsing some of my external linked libraries (i use many from tomcat, log4j , mysql , and some other less common )
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. -- The automated Eclipse Genie.
