Description Alexandra Schladebeck CLA 2012-01-05 04:22:21 EST
The current search function for forums seems to be quite limited - as far as I can see, the search term cannot use wildcards, terms that are present in the forum are often not found, and there seems to be problems with case sensitivity.

Examples:
I searched for "event" in the Jubula forum, and just received the entry for the Eclipse Testing Day. I searched for "event handler", and got 13 hits.

I searched for "obfuscated" in the same forum, and received no hits. There is, however, a post that contains the word
(e.g. http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/m/689902/?srch=dialog#msg_689902)

I searched for "Context Menu" and got one hit, searched for "context menu" and got two. Searching for "Context Menu" again gives me two hits now, but there are more posts than just these two that contain this string.

It would be great if the search was more configurable and powerful (I realize these terms are not particularly tangible!). The forums are a valuable information resource and it saves everyone time if topics can be easily searched.

I think the Forum's search index needs to be rebuilt. This is a fairly painful task, since it must read all 700,000+ forum posts and index them.

I'll see if I can do this during the weekend.

The search index was rebuilt, and the search results look to be much better. Please reopen if you see anything else unusual.

Closing this.
