Description Chris Field CLA 2012-01-04 18:31:02 EST
Build Identifier: Version: 3.7.1.r37x_v20110729-9gF7UHOxFtniV7mI3T556iZN9AU8bEZ1lHMcVK Build id: M20110909-1335

Eclipse locks up. I can move the cursor around, and stuff that is selected is highlighted. But I cannot open menus, right click anything, flip windows, etc.. Also all my other applications are completely frozen within X windows. I have to use control + f1 to go to the console and then kill the process before using f7 to return to X. Attached is a stack trace from kill -3.

I cannot yet reliably reproduce the issue. Opening/closing many projects and working with the M2 mercurial plugin sometimes aggravates things, but not always.

Linux Distro: DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=oneiric
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 11.10"

Linux cfield-dev 3.0.0-13-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 2 13:27:26 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Spring IDE Version: 2.8.1.201111220115-RELEASE

Also this seems to occur most of the time after eclipse is open a while, but occasionally it happens within an hour or two of starting eclips.

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

The stack trace doesn't indicate that Eclipse is frozen.

It happened again. I did a view history with the mercurial plugin, then went away from my computer and came back to find the whole PC frozen again.

If I hovered over the various icons they would be highlighted, but I could not click on them (mainly toolbar ikons and the tasks window icons). If I hovered over the bottom/right of the navigator, history window, or some of the other window the little scroll arrows would appear (although I could not scroll) and then disappear. I took a stack trace.

I waited a while and played around some more, and the icons stopped being highlighted, but the scroll arrows still appeared. My X session (KDE) was totally frozen. But control + alt + f1 successfully opened up a console session from which I could issue kill -3 to eclipse and then kill -9. Once eclipse died everything became unlocked.

The lock may be something in kde that freezes everything, however eclipse is definitely the cause because once I kill -9 eclipse everything unlocks.

Attached are my stack traces as ThreadDump20120105.txt.

Which JRE are you using? If you use 7.0 then please try with 6.0.

java version "1.6.0_29"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_29-b11)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.4-b02, mixed mode)

Essentially the Sun 64 bit jdk for linux.

I can't reproduce this issue. Please feel free to file a new bug against Oxygen if the issue still persists.
