There are some xhr get's made in git-log and git-status and should be made using gitClient.
gitClient functions add some functionality to handle 401, 403 and 202 that is or isn't copied to other places where we are doing custom calls. We should keep it in one place.

Some changes made while fixing Bug 376104. Rest will be done in M2.
