it "feels" like some kind of internal caching mechanisms causes the crash (eclipse seems to get slower and slower during the day, but that's only a guess) the crash occurs on closing the application, what happens most time in the evening after having a longer coding sessions in eclipse.

Reproducible: Sometimes

threaddumps by visualvm v1.3.3

this .zip file includes the corresponding visual vm threaddump files, which i saved while eclipse crashed.
the first threaddump file (have a look at the datetime-file suffixes) is one, which was just taken while everything still worked fine. so you might have some kind of reference to compare to.
thank you very much!

So if you just startup Eclipse and close it it doesn't crash?
Comment 3 Marco Siegl CLA 2011-12-19 10:04:51 EST
no, eclipse only crashes after i've been working on some files.
if i just open eclipse and close it right after the initial startup is closes safely.
maybe there is some "index cluttering" going on there?

so here is my "eclipse.ini" which is located within the "eclipse.app"-package:

-startup
../../../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.2.0.v20110502.jar
--launcher.library
../../../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.cocoa.macosx_1.1.100.v20110502
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256m
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
-vmargs
-Xms512m
-Xmx1024m
-Xdock:icon=../Resources/Eclipse.icns
-XstartOnFirstThread
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.carbon.smallFonts

additionally:
bash-cmd > java -version

returns:
java version "1.6.0_24"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_24-b07-334-10M3326)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.1-b02-334, mixed mode)

I think that leak has been fixed. If this re-occurs with Luna please re-open.
