Description Stephan Herrmann CLA 2011-12-16 12:11:33 EST
This repeatably fails on Kubuntu 11.10:

1. download brand new package eclipse-modeling-juno-m4
1.a (raise -Xmx to 900m)
2. launch eclipse with an empty workspace
3. install Xtext via "Install modeling components"
4. restart when asked
Effects:
5. Welcome screen is empty
(shows a title bar with tab, buttons ... but no content)
6. when closing welcome it shows we are in the Java perspective but
below the toolbar eclipse is empty
7. try to switch perspective using Ctrl-3: key has no effect
8. trying to show view package explorer via menu has no effect
9. open perspective debug via menu => eclipse comes back to life
and no further problems are observed

Also tried:
2. install m2e from Juno repository
=> same effects
Comment 1 Stephan Herrmann CLA 2011-12-16 12:19:23 EST
Ctrl-3 works until I close the empty welcome screen.
... well, I can select, e.g., to open the package explorer,
which then has no effect.

I verified that this bug is not specific to the modeling package:
starting from the java package and installing, e.g., subversive
gives the same result.

Which build are you using, Stephan?

I thought saying "brand new package eclipse-modeling-juno-m4"
would be precise enough :)
The java package was from the same version.

Both were downloaded from
  http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/index-developer.php

Ah, and I'm on 32 bit x86.

No, you are correct, I skimmed the bug and didn't see any zip or tar or date strings anywhere and incorrectly assumed the information was not included.

I can't reproduce this with Luna. Stephan, has it been re-occurring?
