I need help in getting to servers behind a firewall. I want to go to a bridge server and run a ssh to get to the protected server.

Reproducible: Always

I'm not sure what you are asking for ... better docs ? Or some automatic bootstrapping functionality for the tunnel ?

See http://help.eclipse.org/indigo/topic/org.eclipse.rse.doc.user/tasks/tbeginlinux.html for simple tunnelling (search for "Firewall").

See bug 195170 for tunnelling in general.

I think in your case this should work:
  ssh gatewayserver "ssh -L27127:protectedserver:27127"
now connect to gatewayserver:27127 and it will forward to protectedserver.

I'm marking this as enhancement request for now, but please specify what you were really interested in.
