Description Matthias Sohn CLA 2011-12-06 08:51:09 EST
I received the following email today when Kevin was approved as a new JGit committer

I think this email is confusing and it seems the process actually works in a different way
than suggested by this email.

AFAIK employer information for new committers is collected through contribution
agreements, also I can't find any field in the portal where I could enter VCS
package information (whenever I got such an email this field's checkbox was
already checked).

The problem here is that the Technology PMC generally just takes care of the VCS stuff on at the same time the approve the election. By the time you got this email and act on it, the VCS step has already been taken.

The Employer info request is totally bogus.

I'll clean up the message that's sent out.

The message has been changed:

To: developer1@example.com
Subject: Please fill in VCS information for Karl Candidate

Alex O'Developer,
Karl Candidate was elected by the Committers and approved by the PMC as a
Committer on the technology.foo project. The next step is for you, as
Project Lead, to return to the portal:

	http://portal.eclipse.org/

and fill in the information about which VCS packages should be granted to
Karl Candidate.

Note that the rules have changed since this portal component was created
and we haven't had a chance to properly update it yet. Since all committers
on a project now have access to all resources on a project, this question
just doesn't make any sense. Please just enter '*' in both fields and click
'save'. For more information, see Bug 332534.

By the time you receive this note, this step may have already been
completed by the PMC or another project lead.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your PMC
member or the EMO <emo@eclipse.org>
