The fix should go in 3.7.2 as well as the performance tests.

This change resulted in bug 369177, so it was supposed to get backed out of the 3.7.2 release.  When I view the R3_7_mainenance branch of the Git repository, I see that it wasn't backed out.  

I plan to patch our internal release of 3.7.2 with the patch for bug 369177.  I don't know what should be done for the publicly available release.
