This task is created to discuss and refine the proposal to request the creation of the "Review for Eclipse Project (R4E)" as a sub-project of Mylyn Reviews. The proposal html document is being sent to emo, The actual link will be posted in this task once it's available.
+1 this will provide more visibility to R4E as a full-blown standalone review tool implementation. R4E is not as tightly coupled with Mylyn's APIs and frameworks as other components in Mylyn Reviews and has been evolving more independently. A separate sub-sub project will provide R4E with more flexibility in terms of leadership, graduation, process and release scheduling and the restructuring should also facilitate building community around the project.
Some additional information as requested by EMO: >What bits of functionality will stay in Reviews vs. what will be moved to the new subproject? The current repository is divided into sub-folders. Moving r4e will pretty much require moving the bundles underneath the "o.e.mylyn.reviews/r4e" folder to a new repository. Steffen suggests to use git filter-branch to split the single repository into two. >I've noticed that the committers listed on the new project are all the active committers on Reviews. Will these committers all remain on Reviews as well, or are they moving? What is the implication for the parent project? The proposal is that R4E committers remain committers under Mylyn Reviews as Ericsson and Tasktop have interest to evolve the reviews freamework and Gerrit connector. Mylyn Reviews will then continue to have committers from Tasktop, SAP, INSO and Ericsson. >When do you want to run the review? I just submitted the IP log for approval, and mentioned and estimated time for the re-structuring review to December 5th. Please let me know what you think. >We'll need an IP Log approval prior to the review. I will post an update as soon as I hear from the IP team.

In addition I am proposing to move one more bundle to the new repository, i.e. these directories would move: framework/org.eclipse.mylyn.reviews.frame.core r4e/ All other directories would remain in the existing repository.
Sounds good. Can you make sure that this information is included in the review document? Bullet form will do.
Update: * IP log has been approved and attached to parent bug 364860. * The proposal has been updated as requested by Wayne and distributed by e-mail.
Review scheduled for Jan 4th 2012, see. http://eclipse.org/projects/
